How to fix Telegram search issues and improve your Tg experience. Find Telegram channels faster.
Telegram is one of the best service ever, offering so many possibility. Is not just a social network or messaging app like all others, with Tg you can simply do all what you want. Like with every product, there are still some issues. In this post you will learn how you can find Telegram channels or groups much better and faster and how you can discover content inside a channel, without getting crazy.
First of all, we want let you know that we are heavy extreme Telegram users, spending hours on Tg each day. We already submitted over 100 suggestions to Telegram in the last months, but currently nothing has been implemented. We still hope they will do that. All tips (not our suggestions to Telegram) have been released on our Telegram announcement channel too.
In the last days we released a Telegram Directory Discord Server multilingual and in italian, so you can check and search channels in a better way. We remember you, that you can find channels or bots on our Discord Server too.
Except using such directories, you need to know that there are many Telegram Mac Apps available, most of them don’t work anymore, because Telegram blocked such apps. Currently the SMS login works only on new updated desktop based Mac Apps. Even the old stable beta version released few months ago, before Apple CPU, stopped to work, so currently you cannot use two Telegram betas at the same time. You can still continue to enjoy such apps, if you already did a login previously. As we announced on Telegram, we are searching someone that can clone the Telegram Stable Mac App, due to this “downgrade” made by Telegram.
We will release in future a new post about the big difference on such apps. What is important to know now, is that the search function on such apps is totally different. From our experience, using all Mac Apps available at the same time, stable or beta Mac Apps offer better search results, compared to desktop or unofficial desktop Telegram apps.
Improve your channel searching workflow
Generally on desktop based apps you get less results (this means global search) and most of them are unrelated to what you really want to find.
We experienced different search results between desktop based apps or stable/beta, so we suggest to do your search using different apps and not just one. We suggest to search channels or groups using different accounts, because generally accounts with less joined channels offer better results compared to accounts, where you already reached the 500 limit. Yes, we hate such 500 limit too xD and suggested an increment to 1000–2000.
Do you need to search something like topic “a b” (example “a” for Telegram and “b” for channel), you should search on Telegram “a b”, “ab”, “b a”, “ba”, “a_b”, “b_a”, and other similar ways, for example “a b c”, “abc” where “c” is another term.
We suggest to use synonyms too.
Search on search engines
Currently there are a lot search engines available.
Each search engine has some good features.
Generally available on all is the ability to limit search results to few days or months. We suggest to use such feature to find new channels.
Find channels using images search is a good option too, even if not always you can find what you search.
Another option is to search channels by adding specific words like “topic telegram channel reddit”, “topic telegram channel”, “topic telegram.me”, “topic tg channel”, “topic t.me”.
Group of terms can be searched with … “groupofterms” … too.
Google for example offers different search options.
You can search just a specific domain like telegram.me, t.me and other Telegram join domains too. In such case you can write “topic site:domain” or “site:domain topic” or using browser extensions/scripts.
This method doesn’t show always good results and if the channel is not index, you get 0 results too.
You need to use different browsers to maybe find the channel you want. We still suggest to search directly in Telegram using our methods, in a directory and only after that on search engines.
Improve your Telegram experience
Search by date
You probably never used it, but is a great feature. Telegram offers a function to show you specific posts by date. This is a great way to find old posts faster.
Go to first post
You maybe know that you can always get the message link with just a right click on the post, and such post is visible even on the browser.
Now we can use such feature to go directly to the first post, without need to scroll 1000000 km. You can simply copy the link, in this case https://t.me/datahoardingfreaks/923, then you write /1 instead of /923, you visit a different telegram channel and you search https://t.me/datahoardingfreaks/1.
In such way you see immediately the first post on the channel.
Telegreat instead implemented a great feature “go to first message”, without need to copy the url. In Telegreat you can copy channel ID immediately too.
Telegram Web Preview
You probably already visited similar pages
but have you ever clicked on preview channel? Telegram will change the url from https://t.me/datahoardingfreaks to https://t.me/s/datahoardingfreaks for example. In such preview only short videos are available, outside text and photos.
The search function on such preview works much better compared to all other Mac Apps. If you search for example “Seagate”, they will only show Seagate posts, and not others (like Lacie, WD, Sandisk, etc.). In the Mac Apps instead they just show you post suggestions.
Search on Telegram Stable or Beta
Telegram stable or betas are not just better to search channels, but even to search content inside a channel.
Search results are much more compact, so you get more results. On desktop based you always need to click X to close the search, before you can search a channel. On stable and betas you can do it immediately, so is a much better Tg experience. Good in the desktop version is to have search results on the left, so you can switch posts much faster without losing the search if you click somewhere else.
Desktop based apps for medias
On Telegram Desktop medias are better separated, so you can check videos, photos or other much better and faster compared to stable.
Currently TikTok videos don’t work on stable and betas too.
We suggest to scroll the media feed instead of checking the main feed, if you are interested only in videos or photos.
Search by tags
Tags sometimes, not always, can help you to find the right content.
Search by urls
Previously we already talked about copy message links. Now you can use such feature to open posts randomly. For example you copy https://t.me/tmebackup/4862 and you search the post https://t.me/tmebackup/96
Save the message before clicking “go to last message”
You probably already got such notification, where a lot of new posts have been released. If you jump immediately to the last, you will simply lose all others.
We suggest to first save the message or to forward to a channel “Jump to” or whatever you want to call it. In such way you can continue to scroll the feed later. Obviously this works only for few posts, not 1M, like the previous example xD.
If you follow such steps, your experience with Telegram will be much better.
